In order to properly compare how epoxy flooring stacks up to traditional flooring options we are going to outline the three major flooring options used today and then we will go through how we think epoxy stands against them. The most common types of traditional flooring most found in homes and business fronts are tile, hardwood, and carpet. We will start this off with tile.
Tile
Tile is an amazing product that can be found in a variety of different types of stone like ceramic and porcelain to quartz, so there are no shortcomings when it comes to the selection of tile. But, as tile selection goes, the more beautiful the tile, the more expensive it is going to be. While tile can be considered a durable flooring it does have few things that it cannot defend against. Tile stands no chance when a heavy object is dropped on it and it the grout and tile itself can stain rather easily when the sealer wears off, and the sealer wears offer fast in high traffic areas. The tile will usually last around a few years to decades depending on what type of tile is used.
Hardwood
Hardwood floors are known for their classy or rustic appearance and are mostly used in upscale homes. When choosing between hardwood flooring, there is minimal customization as you can usually only choose between the grain style, wood or color of the flooring and this can be considered dull and boring. Wood flooring is also very expensive to install and can even be hard to find someone who can install hardwood and depending on what area it is placed in, the flooring can show signs of wear and tear in months!
Carpet
Carpet is one of the most used flooring options used in both homes and office spaces across the United States. While carpet can add warmth to a room and be a cheap and fast flooring to install, it doesn’t really have any great features outside of that. Carpet is a flooring option that doesn’t have a very long life and it is suggested that the carpet is changed ever 5 years. Not only is the life of carpet short, but the upkeep of carpet can also be very tedious and expensive with needing to be vacuumed at least 2 times a week and in most cases, it needs to be shampooed or steam cleaned every six months.
Epoxy Flooring
After outlining all of the most popular flooring options today, it is hard to see that epoxy flooring is not one of them. Epoxy flooring offers superior durability and can even handle heavy machinery, vehicle traffic and it is able to defend itself from some dropped objects if they are not too heavy. Epoxy flooring is also extremely custom as it can be customized with a variety of colors and designs, colored flakes and even metallic pigment. Epoxy flooring is also a flooring that can be installed quickly as the process can take just over a week in an industrial facility. Not to mention that epoxy flooring can last well over 20 years with cases of epoxy flooring lasting well over 30 years.
When the major flooring options are compared next to an epoxy flooring, it is hard to believe that epoxy flooring isn’t used more than it is. Epoxy flooring takes all the best qualities from these floorings and amplifies them by ten in most cases and if you ask me, epoxy flooring wins this by a long shot!
